SD-WAN: the intelligent overlay
Software-defined WAN applies centralized policy to traffic across available links. Depending on the selected platform, it can use application classification and path measurements to steer traffic.
SSE: the security functions
Security Service Edge brings together cloud-delivered security functions such as secure web gateway, cloud access security broker and zero trust network access. Features and data protection capabilities vary by platform and subscription.
SASE: the architectural combination
Secure Access Service Edge combines networking and cloud-delivered security. It is an architecture and service approach, rather than a guarantee that every component comes from the same vendor.
Begin with dependencies and ownership
Map identity, endpoint posture, application access and inspection requirements. Define who administers policy, how exceptions are approved and how service performance is reviewed. Stage adoption around business risk and existing contract lifecycles.
